Somewhere far, far, far deeper in the Amazon rainforest

Catori and Jess blinked several times after the sacks covering their heads got removed. The boat carrying them was just entering a valley shielded by mountains.

The entire place was settled with smaller and larger buildings, from the river banks to clifftops. The infrastructure looked ancient but well-maintained. A monumental pyramid rested against a hillside, now basking in afternoon sun rays.

The city was nothing short of magical, even surreal: Jess had the opportunity to explore pre-Columbian ruins, but this was another thing altogether. She peeked at Catori, and her friend’s breath was taken away, too.

Approaching a berth swarmed with dockers flouncing about with magayas20 full of cargo, Jess noticed two distinct welcoming parties among the gapers. One was similar to their captors, all cap-a-pie warriors, exclusively men. The other resembled a court, though, after closer examination, she couldn’t shrug off the sensation that it was also somewhat fenced in as if the guards were more of hacks than sentries.

Their boat bumped against the fenders. Catori and Jess were forced out. Those forming the court wanted to look closer but were barred by the others. An argument broke out: a gentle yet assertive female voice made its way through the discord. Then, somebody elbowed their way through two guards.

The woman and Jess’ eyes met, and both froze to the spot. “I’d be damned if that’s not the queen of the Amazons!” crossed Jess’ mind. The blackness of her long hair could even outmatch that of Catori’s. Her round face was covered in black & red tattoos, though in contrast to those worn by men, hers presented subtle geometrical ornaments. A few freckles dotted the nose. The woman’s lips were full, now a bit ajar, showing pearly teeth. Even as Jess couldn’t unfix her stare from the woman’s dusky eyes, she also felt the entirety of her nubility, a pair of firm breasts rushing up and down by rapid breathing.

Catori coughed. The woman blinked, bringing Jess and her back to reality. Then something stirred the crowd. The brute who captured them rushed forward and grabbed the woman’s arm offhandedly. He uttered through clenched teeth what heard like foul language; apparently, what happened was more than fueling his anger.

The woman whom Jess called queen said nothing. She resisted the man’s barraging without flinching, though his vise-like grip would surely leave a nasty bruise. Eventually, the creep used his superior strength to muscle the woman back to her court and shouted something grimly toward the others, forcing them to turn tails.

Catori wanted to tell Jess something she noticed, but the man was quicker. He went at Jess like a bull at a gate. Before anyone could react, the man smacked her.

In a heartbeat, Catori’s boot was heading up to savage the brute’s lower rib cage, but he just grabbed her leg and tossed it effortlessly, like he was fending off a mosquito. Though clearly on the brink of going berserk, he didn’t punch Catori. Even his men diverted their sights, just not to look into his bloodshot eyes.
